Dearest little Girl:  I rec'd your letter this morning and I was sure glad to hear from you.  I was home Wednesday or rather thurs. but didn't get to see you.  I intended to come to the dance that night but Billy Kaseman got me and we went watermelon swiping instead.  I'm sorry little girl that I didn't get to see you.  I came up on dispatch service.  I left San Diego at 12:00 Wed. night and got home at 4:00 a.m. thurs morning.  I wish I could be with you again for another middyday.  I certainly had a dandy time that day.  Say little girl can't Geo. & sister and you & I go to a show in town the next time we get to come home.  I think we will be there in a week or two.  We won't be there this Sunday but I think in a couple of weeks.  Would you really consider giving up Mr. Conrad for one night to go with a rough neck like me.  I've wanted to go with you for a long time now but I'm not the kind to butt in on another boy's girl when I consider him my friend.  Mabe you don't know how I feel but I can't explain it in a letter.  I've studied you for a long time and I can't help but tell you that I really think a lot of you.  Don't think that I'm making love to you but I'm telling you just what I think.  I don't know what you will think of me.  george said he would write to sister today.  How many came to the dance thurs. night.  Gee but I was tired tho!  I rode all night Wed. night and then up all day.  i was all in for sure next time I come I'll expect to see you the next time I come.  You be sure and get your picture taken and then send one down here.  Don't you forget that either.  I'll be willing to pay for that too.  You know you got a picture of me.  Well little girl I must quit now and take a shower.  that is all we have.  No ocean or bath tub and a few other things that we would have at home.  Well good-bye little girl and write soon.  Your Soldier Man Ray.  (The envelope is addressed to:  Miss Silvia Ames, 404 11th Street, Huntington Beach, Calif.)
